After cops swarmed the Studio City mansion of Miley Cyrus last week based on a false report of a home invasion with shots fired, experts are warning that such hacker-like pranks, called SWAT-ting, are all the rage with teens.

And this could be (cue Fox 11 News-announcer-voice) dangerous for your child.

The thing with SWAT-ting, apparently, is that it’s too easy, especially for the overindulged, bratty, unbearable kids of today who have way too much free time.

The folks from the site uKnowKids sent us a handy primer on this devious activity, noting that teens can easily mask their phone numbers via services such as Spoofcard. This and other apps also let them change their voices.

This is, then, way too much technology for the LAPD.

Seriously, though: Calling out rifle-toting officers and a chopper to a celebrity’s house costs money and takes resources away from other communities.

Internet safety expert Tim Wod says:

Many teens who engage in online gaming, chat rooms or social media may be at risk. Miley Cyrus and a few politicians have already been victims of this vengeful act.

As it stands the Cyrus caller, if he/she is ever found, could be on the hook for a year behind bars under California law. But it’s still a misdemeanor.

uKnowKids says that legislation is in the works nationwide that would see much as $10,000 worth of fines and four years behind bars for SWAT-ting convicts.

So forget sexting, drugs and The Hunger Games. The real danger for teens these days is learning how to game 911.

Los Angeles police said Thursday they were tracking the hoaxster whose call sent at least a dozen officers and firefighters to singer Miley Cyrus’ home Wednesday evening. 

“We responded to a call of a kidnapping in progress, one person shot, at an address on Amanda Drive” at 6:50 p.m. PT, a police representative told ABC News, which confirmed the location as Cyrus’ mansion.

After approaching the house with guns drawn, police determined no one was home and that it had been a false call. Law enforcement officials said it was a possible “swatting,” in which pranksters call in fake emergencies in order to have a SWAT team converge on a location.

Cyrus was not at home. During the past week, she has been spotted with her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, on the Philadelphia set of his film “Paranoia,” MTV.com said.

In California, making a false 911 call is a misdemeanor with penalties of up to a year in jail.

The star flew into the US city a couple of weeks ago to keep her fiance company as he shoots his new movie ‘Paranoia’. It sounds like Miley has been getting a little bored of waiting for Liam to finish his scenes as locals report she’s been spotted at a city tanning salon twice in one week!

Thankfully it looks like Miley didn’t get the Ross in Friends treatment as she was pictured showing off her perfectly bronzed bod around the city this week.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are madly in love, but unlike Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, they aren’t in a race to the altar.

“Eventually I am going to marry and have a family but not anytime soon,” Vampire Diaries actress Dobrev, 23, tells the September issue of Canada’s FASHION magazine. “I’m not going to pull a Miley.”

(In January 2012, several British tabloids claimed Somerhalder, 33, had asked his costar to marry him. “There is no truth to this item at all,” Dobrev’s rep told Us Weekly at the time. “There was no proposal.” The two have been linked since 2010.)

Their stance on marriage isn’t the only thing that sets Cyrus and Dobrev apart: while Cyrus is frequently photographed wearing grungy, ’90s-inspired attire, Dobrev dons more sophisticated looks by Donna Karan, Elie Saab and Monique Lhuillier. It has been an exciting year for Demi Lovato. She’s in the middle of writing her fourth album and has joined the judges’ panel of X Factor. There may, however, be another bit of excitement in store for the young singer. Rumor has it that she may be among the wedding party for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth as a bridesmaid.

It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility. After all, Demi and Miley have been friends for a long time, although there have been a few bumpy moments along the way. As Demi told Seventeen magazine a few months ago, “Miley Cyrus and I are strong headed. When we fight it’s brutal and we’re like, ‘We’re never going to be friends again! Then two days later, we’re like, ‘I love you and I miss you!’”

Yesterday, however, a fan called into Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show and asked Demi Lovato, who was present as a guest, point blank about the Miley and Liam wedding and if she was going to be Miley’s bridesmaid. “I don’t know when it is. I don’t even know if she’s planning it yet. I don’t know . . . I don’t know. You gotta ask her.” Clearly, if Miley was planning to include Demi in the wedding, it hasn’t yet been revealed, fans will just have to wait and see.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were overwhelmed with swarms of frenzied fans on the streets of Philadelphia Thursday.

Cyrus followed her fiancé Hemsworth to the set of his latest film Paranoia, and the recently engaged couple caught just way too much attention on the streets of Philadelphia.

The 19-year-old singer and actress rocked a floral halter dress and twirling up her newly-dyed blonde hair in her trademark bun, while the 22-year-old actor wore khakis and dark red trainers with a buttoned down blue shirt and a blue knitted beanie.

Cyrus clung to the Hunter Games star’s hands as they walked through the mob of frenzied fans, The Daily Mail reported.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth at one point surrendered to pose for the fans who wanted to snap photos with the engaged couple. Smiles on the couple’s faces, however, were half frozen.

Philadelphia fans seem to be too unfamiliar with the star sighting, unlike Los Angeles, where the engaged duo can usually stroll down comfortably.

When Miley and Liam arrived at the Philadelphia airport Tuesday along with their dog Ziggy, the trio was greeted by a storm of paparazzi, which understandably displeased the stars.

“Why do paparazzi feel the need to video me walking Ziggy? I mean really? Are headlines really gonna read Mileys dog takes a sh*t?” Cyrus tweeted.

Cyrus has recently complained over nosy paparazzi on Twitter multiple times.

“I hate paparazzi with a passion. disgusting pigs. (no offense to pigs),” Miley Cyrus tweeted a week ago.

“How is it legal for men I’ve never seen before to sit in front of my house and then follow me around! So shady and scary,” the “Hannah Montana” star was totally pissed when she tweeted again a few days later.

The engagement of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth has been rumored to be on the rocks, and Cyrus’ cryptic Twitter messages may give away some clues.

“Maybe you could’ve been something I’d be good at,” the 19-year-old star tweeted on July 8.

“do you not think that far ahead? Cause I’ve been thinkin bout forever…” Cyrus tweeted on July 10.

From her new blonde hair to the new tattoo and mysterious marks, Miley Cyrus has left her fans wondering whether she is hinting some unwanted turmoil in her engagement to Hemsworth.

While skateboarding with her fiancé Liam Hemsworth in Los Angeles on Sunday, Cyrus gave onlookers a better view of her brighter hair color, which is a major departure from the auburn shade she’s been sporting this year. It also appears she trimmed off a few inches.
